On Monday 14th February 2000 I went to see the Musical Comedy called "THICK AS A BRICK" which was being performed at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham. The play is set in the classroom, in particular a drama class, and is about a teacher trying to get the confidence of the pupils and the battle with the headmaster to prove that the Arts are as important in life as academic subjects.
At one point, when the headmaster said that nobody really cares when something to do with the arts gets closed down, I thought of "THE AXIOM!!!".
I thought the play was really good and especially liked the songs and choreography.
THE CAST
JO THEAKER as Kerry Shields
SALLY CARMAN as Maggie Brook
CHARLIE MUDIE as Stacey Naylor
ROGER BUTCHER as The Headmaster & Seedy Ron
NICKY GOLDIE as Mary Clifford
GORDON KANE as Jimmy Naylor
I also thought the performance of the Headmaster was very convincing (hardly surprising as Roger used to be one).
